Judo Coach & Physics Instructor
Dr. Sanichiro Yoshida
Dr. Yoshida is a native of Tokyo, Japan. He went to Azabu High School and studied at Università Keio. He is now a professor at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Dr. Yoshida began his Judo competition as a Junior & went on to place highly in the All-Japan High School Championships. He is a long-time member of Kodokan Judo School in Tokyo, Japan, the mecca of the judo world. We had the pleasure of training together at the Kodokan some time back. He has a Dojo at Southeastern Louisiana University and is also the coach and manager here at Olympic Judo Dojo.
He holds the Judo rank of Yodan (4th Degree Black Belt). His many judo tournament wins, great dedication, hard work, and love of judo has made him a beloved and respected Sensei.

Owner and founder Ronnie Nicholson’s Judo journey began under the mentorship of WWII veteran Marty “Nails” Martin, a pioneer in introducing Judo to Louisiana. Inspired by Martin’s passion for competition and excellence, Nicholson started training in 1958 and honed his skills under legendary instructors, including Ryozo Nakamura (6th Dan) and Nori Bunasawa (8th Dan).
Nicholson’s expertise reflects decades of training, studying with world-renowned champions like Gene LeBell, and learning from the best Judo practitioners globally. His commitment to Judo extends beyond technique—fostering discipline, respect, and mastery among his students.
Recognized by USA Judo as a National-Level Judo Coach, Nicholson continues to inspire the next generation through his unparalleled knowledge, competitive spirit, and dedication to the art of Judo.
